Flags gone? Downvote button? Will it change mindsets?

in #flags7 years ago

So I just went to upvote a post and noticed something different. See if you can spot it.

Yes, next to the regular upvote is a down button. What's this? Hover mouse over it and it says it's a downvote. Hmmm. Let's check the top right of the post for the usual flag button we all love to hate...

Whaaaa? No flag!

I then went to check on other posts but saw that flags had returned and no downvote button. What madness is this? So I returned to the previous post and yes, the flag button was once again there and no downvote button.

Perhaps it is being tested and will be rolled out across the board soon?

I do hope that when fully implemented it adjusts the way people think about disagreements with rewards and gets rid of the stigma people feel about flags.

many people dont even know about flag but everybody will now about downvote and will begin to downvote thing they dont agree with

As long as it's used for the right reasons, then I hope more people use it.

I fail to see the difference in the big scheme of things Muxxy.

Downvote/flag whatever I still won't use it. I just can't bring myself to take away rewards from people even when they're an asshat!

If it's a perception issue I don't think it's going to make a difference, in fact downvoting sounds worse to me, at least a flag was a Steemit thing.

Downvoting feels a bit Fakebook/YouBoob for my liking.

Oh well, it is what it is I guess. Thanks for the info mate.

Yikes! I feel like this might highly incentivize flags/downvotes, which would be a real shame since it seems to me that the rewards pool is no where near being used up, but maybe this is a way to keep the pool for all the coming Steem applications?

Thank you for this informative post, @gmuxx.

Do you really think downvotes will be perceived better than flags? And that they are better than flags? I don’t know. I’m overly sensitive, I’m sure, but I will feel awful the first time and every time someone downvotes a post of mine. And even though I put heart and soul into my content, I’m sure it will happen. A downvote could mean anything from disagreement to disapproval to someone just having a bad day, or not believing that the topic is worthy content for Steemit. I write fiction and topics about fiction, and as we know some people just don’t think it belongs here. And some people think only certain types of fiction belong here. They might not flag it, eg suggesting it’s actually offensive, but they might consider downvoting because they don’t like it and personally or professionally disapprove. Hmm. It worries me.

Long discussed topic. Everyone has their own feelings about it. But it really doesn't matter if you call it a flag or downvote since they both do the same thing. I think it might be better to have the flag in the corner since that might prevent some of the "bad day downvotes".

It’s got to be tough to figure out the best way to help the community support quality content. I do think it’s important to have a mechanism in place to allow the community to unsupport content that is a poor use of the platform. I certainly don’t have any answers about the best way. I’m sure you’re right that a flag and a downvote are basically the same thing. I guess I just fear people may use a downvote the way they might use a sad face on Facebook. It will be interesting!

It's most useful for spam control. Other than that, if I don't like it, it just doesn't get a vote.

I totally agree. That’s my approach too. Although I have yet to flag anyone. Can I see myself more freely downvoting spam? Yeah, I can. To @gmuxx’s point.

I'm not personally seeing this yet in my browser, but I'm excited! I think "flagging" is perfectly healthy and natural and a rebranding to the more appropriate downvote connotation may help alleviate some of the stigma.

It'll also help alleviate the confusion new users have, as they feel like flagging is a process of bringing in some centralized authority. I see far too many people calling for certain accounts to be banned, not knowing that such a thing isn't possible on the blockchain.

@gmuxx Looks like the downvote is more visible since it is next to the upvote button. If this is implemented, will people use more of the downvote button since it has more visibility compared before?

I hope so.

If this goes through, I'll be ruined ! Maybe.

Don't be silly, master artist ^.^

I flagged this post just to see if it worked... jk jk

Why I oughta....

Oops! I mean witness. Already got my vote.

Hehe, thank you.

You're most welcome.

And I was just gunna flag your post :P
