3 Strategies to Maintain Your Motivation to the Maximum | Gym Tips

Hello Steemians! Today I will explain 3 strategies that will be very useful if you are not motivated, or to find the energy to do all the things you want. Although they are simple, I recommend that you put them into practice because I am sure that you will be able to take advantage of them.

Volitional Strategies

When we talk about volitional strategies we are referring to those strategies that will allow us to keep our motivation to the maximum, helping us to achieve the goals we are pursuing. A volitional state of mind is when we are totally focused on performing the action we want to perform.

Strategy Nº 1: Control of Emotion

The first strategy that I will explain is the control of emotion. When we are facing a workout, there are always some phases of it that we will like a little less, there are certain movements that are more tedious, certain muscle groups or certain exercises that we find more difficult to perform, but anyway we have to do them.

It is one of the most difficult strategies to apply, but if we apply it correctly it is the one that we will most benefit from.

What is this strategy about?

Instead of focusing so much on those thoughts like "I don't feel like doing it" or "I don't like it so much", it is better to change the focus and think about the positive things that part of the training will bring us. For example, a powerlifter who is not very good at the bench press, but really needs to do it to compete. So, instead of focusing so much on the fact that his worst exercise is the bench press, he should focus on the fact that if he wants to get a good result in competition, the bench press is a very important exercise. Having that kind of thoughts will help us to better face that exercise.

Strategy Nº 2: Control of Motivation

This strategy consists of trying to focus all our thoughts on finding all the positive parts of why we practice the sports discipline that we practice. For example, in the case of the powerlifter, instead of focusing so much on the fact that he doesn't like the bench press or doesn't like to practice any particular exercise, he should try to focus on how he feels each time he competes and how he feels every time he trains power lifting. All those feelings of improvement are what we should have in mind.

Strategy Nº 3: Parsimony in the Information Process

Although this last strategy sounds a bit complicated or technical, it is quite simple to apply. Let's go back to the powerlifter example, surely stretching their muscles a bit will be very good, but if he has to decide each day, at what time or schedule he will perform his stretches, he will probably postpone it until the day is over and he has not done it. On the other hand, if we establish a defined schedule in which we propose, for example, that every Tuesday and Thursday at 5:00 pm we are going to start stretching, we will most likely achieve our purpose.

Great article! Totally agree with all of your points. For me the most important thing for your motivation, is to have your core idea, or core reason powering it. I think it's safe to say that a lot of us True blue Gym rats have an idea of ourselves , or past/present demon that possess us to keep going every week, for years on end! Make sure to have your "Why" powering your motivation.
