Pallara parkrun update

in #fitness6 years ago

For those following my previous blog, you may remember I started a new parkrun. I'm happy to say we've done 5 weeks of successful Saturday events. We get about 20-30 runners and walkers per weekend.

It's been an interesting journey from my perspective. From an idea and a meeting of a few people to delivery of the event has been a good learning experience. The local community are starting to attend the event and help volunteer to deliver the event each weekend. The best feedback I've had was from a young family who were absolutely thrilled that a parkrun was coming to their local area.

I've had a few moments where I wonder what I've got myself into. Then I try to have faith that enough people will volunteer eventually so I don't have to run the event every week! I've had a few other runners volunteer now to take some of the load so that I can actually have a run. I'm looking forward to the opportunity to run the course at a parkrun for the first time!

I've been able to be photographer a few weeks. I enjoy trying to get some nice photos of the runners. The one above is the runner who set the male course record last weekend. There are some pretty fit people around South East Queensland! We're also picking up some parkrun tourists, with runners from as far as Tasmania coming along to run our little course. I think when word gets out that it's such a lovely, and flat course that more park runners will make their way over to Pallara.
