Deadlifting/Squating: Shoe Edition
This is me completing my 4th set of 8 reps at 195 lb for deadlifts. I was testing out my New Chucks. 🤙
This post is going to be surrounded with information regarding the proper/ recommended lifting shoes for deadlifting and squatting. I am no expert at all, I only have three years of lifting experience, and I follow people on social media like Matt Ogus and Omar Isuf where I continually learn things everyday. I'm just here to share them with you and want to know your thoughts. Let's begin. 😄
Try these:
NOT these:
HERE'S WHY:
During either a squat or deadlift, you should always "drive through your heels," right? You want a direct transfer to the ground and if you have shoes that have cushion to them you cannot achieve this and can risk yourself with injury. Think of it like this, you have 500 lbs on your back, would you rather be squatting on a bed? Or squatting on concrete? With these running shoes or fancy Nikes that people use for squatting and deadlift (I used to be one of them), you run into the problem where the pressure is uneven throughout the foot. People tend to have the toes/ ball of the foot absorb some of that pressure which you don't want because it alters the movement and is bad on the ankles. You want to, again, drive through the heel with every fluid motion.
Incorrect gear = incorrect motion = no gains.
SHOES TO AVOID
- Basketball Shoes
- "comfy shoes" made for walking or running
- puffy shoes that give
- barefoot (I say this because of the lack of traction during the movement and the ankle instability can give you the risk of slipping and injury)
If you can get your hands on some $45 Chuck Taylors or some quality squat shoes I am highly confident your dead/ squat game will be 10 times better. (If you're performing them correctly of course.) 😝
What equipment has made your training better? Let me know! 👇👇 If you liked this post, upvote so I know what to post more of! Happy Saturday, Steemers. 😘
Heck yeah girl! You're doing great with the weight! 😍😍 Check out Otomix for shoes. I think you will fall in love!!
I would feel like a she-warrior in those! Hopefully I can find $150 laying around the house somewhere. 😉🙄
😭 I know they are so expensive!
This is an awesome post! Lifting shoes make all the difference.
Also if people are wondering if they should choose shoes that are flat, or with a heel, this picture shoes how it can result in different ankle flexion angles.
If your ankle mobility doesn't allow for an angle tighter than 90 degrees, choose a nice heel :)
Thanks for that addition! It helps make the post more sense! I'll definitely have save up for a good pair with a heel! At least for my squatting. 😊
I use the reebook Crossfit shoes. They are really good. you stand firmly on the ground. Try them when you get a chance. You'll love them.
I wear flat Vans for deadlifts and Adidas Powerperfect / Powerlift shoes for squats and olympic weightlifting. I love content like this . upvoted
Thaaaanks giiiirl. 😘
That's amazing progress. Well to be honest, I didn't know lifting shoes matter. Good to know.
I also follow Omar Isuf. Apart from him, Steve cook. Any female lifters you follow??
I follow Amanda Buccii or Emily Dunc. They knows their stuff pretty well. Jazamine Garcia, Nikki Blacketter, Whitney Simmons. A lot of the gymshark atheletes. But those are mainly for blogs. Haha
I do follow Amanda Buccii and jessie hilgenberg. And I know Whitney simmons probably from bobybuilng.com. All of them inpires me a lot and it's good that many girls are considering weight training. :) Would love to hear more about your progress. Keep posting.
Yes! As they should! No more cardio bunnies. And Taylor Chamberlain just got her pro card last week, she is another I follow. And thank you! I will! 😊
