Taking the first steps

It’s all very well motivating and giving advice for people who love the gym, but what about the others out there, the other individuals who don’t know how to eat nutritious food, or crack on with tough work outs. This post is for you, I’m taking it back to basics, I’ll give you the advice and support you need to start your fitness journey!

Make a plan, set that goal

I’m not saying you need to have a years’ worth of HIIT mapped out, but a general idea on what you want to achieve. Weight goals, health goals, running your first 5k. Whatever your goal is, it plays a vital role in keeping you on track when you need some extra motivation.
Bite the bullet

Not super confident? Worried about what people might think? This is where you need to suck it up, and take the plunge! After all, we all have to start somewhere, as long as you’re trying, the results will proceed.
If you’re too nervous about heading to the gym by yourself, why not ask a friend or family member?
Why not try training outside? Pop down to the park, workout in the garden; even skip inside if you have room! When you feel more confident in yourself, then maybe you could try heading over to the gym.

Avoid injuries

When trying out new exercises, it’s always important you know the correct form and techniques. If you’re not sure, check out YouTube, it’s a great way to find new ideas as well as informing yourself on how they’re carried out.
Gym staff/PT – There’s always someone around who’s happy to help, don’t be afraid to ask
It’s all about sustainability, be realistic.

A lot of people throw themselves into ‘diets’ all guns blazing, a month later they’ve given up. If you’re looking for longevity, ensure you’re being realistic with your training and meal plans. Treat yourself occasionally, take an extra day off from the gym.
