Squats! Just For Legs?

Firstly, yes the squat does train your legs, but it also does so much more. Along with strengthening all the muscles, tendons and ligaments in the lower body. It is strengthening the muscles in your upper body also, the reason for this is when you are holding the barbell on top of your traps (trapezius muscle). All the muscles beneath the bar are working to hold that bar in place, certainly if you have a heavy weight on the bar. Your abdominals, erector spinae, trapezius, latissimus dorsi, romboids, deltoids and yes even your biceps and triceps.

With the squat being able to utilise so many different muscles this is the reason that it is such a beneficial exercise for you to do, it has tremendous abitly to build strength in the upper body as well as the lower.

So if your ever in doubt as to what exercise you should be doing in the gym, I always advocate for a squat.
If in doubt, squat it out!!
