How I Lost Weight in 30 Days

For 11 years, I failed in my many attempts to lose weight; until I met Ms. Janice Hung.

Since I was a kid, my body type has been “chubby”. This gave me insecurities. First, it is because some people, especially my siblings and childhood friends teased me and called me names because of being fat. Second, I looked bigger than my classmates. Third, I couldn’t wear some of the nice clothes I want because they didn’t look good on my body. Fourth, my only sister got the good genes; hence, I didn’t feel good when I’m beside her. Fifth, my body type and eating habits caused me to look older than my age.

My figure improved when I became a varsity in high school. However, during college days, since I don’t train anymore, my body slowly gained fats. Some friends teased me because I gained weight. I wanted to prove them I could lose weight and we even had a bet about it. This is where my attempt to lose weight started—back in 2006.

For 11 long years, I have tried different kinds of workouts, fitness activities, diets, cleansing programs, slimming teas, supplements and pills. Some of them worked, but only for a short period of time. Some of them resulted in rebound after the program; worse is that in some, I even weighed more than when I started. I also tried having accountability and fitness partners but since they are not that committed, we all failed in achieving our fitness targets.

In 2017, my brothers, relatives and neighbors started the year with the goal of getting fit. We worked out together two or three times a week. As for me, my goal was to work out as many days a week as possible even when they were not around. As the days passed, one by one, they stopped working out. The only ones left were my 2 brothers and I. When my birth month (April) and holy week came, I totally stopped working out for a few weeks. And so, I gained weight.

The biggest change in my fitness life came on May 2017. It was when I unexpectedly met Ms. Janice Hung at the set of Encantadia, a phenomenal television series in the Philippines, where she played as one of the major villains— the snake Goddess known as Bathaluman Ether. A day after, we started having conversations which led to my sharing about my fitness struggles and goals. That night, she mentioned about the 7-minute fitness program that she designed and asked If I want to join her 30 Day Fitness Challenge. She asked me if I can do it; I said yes. Immediately after our conversation, I started doing the challenge. The "first 30 days" became tough but it was fulfilling because of the evident result. I decided to continue with her program until I reach my fitness goal. As of today, I’m on day 239 of everyday workout. I rarely missed a workout and if I did, I double my workout the following day.

With the proper workout program from Ms. Janice Hung, my body improved a lot— slowly but surely and without rebound. Some people ask if I still eat. Yes, I still enjoy food because that is also Ms. Janice’s belief that you must enjoy your food as long as “You Eat and Burn It” afterwards. There are few moments that I even eat in a buffet. Also, holiday season came wherein I attended more than 10 Christmas parties and gatherings. But with the good example and discipline that has been instilled to me by Ms. Janice Hung, I was able to maintain my figure.

I know I still have a long way to go to achieve a body like hers, but with consistency, persistence and discipline, I know for sure that all my efforts would have favorable results.

Lastly, one good thing that resulted from my success in the fitness challenge of Ms. Janice Hung is that I was able to inspire people. Because of the difference they saw in me, a lot tried to do the fitness challenge. Some became inspired in going back to the gym. And some have put effort in improving their health and lifestyle.

That is an inspirational story. And, you are proof that if you put your mind to it, you can change habits. Its also a testament to Janice for all her efforts to bring fitness and well-being to the people around her. I'm super happy to hear about the life changes. Although everyone should be happy with themselves, regardless of body type, I do know that a healthy lifestyle and body image boosts confidence and self-esteem. You are definitely an inspiration to others!!
