Double Dropshot Fishing Rig for Suspended Fish

in #fishing7 years ago

I do a lot of crappie fishing over the last 3 years. Its easy to fish for them when they roam the shallows in the spring, but after that, these fellas like to suspended deeper, over structure or off past a steep dropoff. sometimes casting can be tough for them because your lure may not effectively.

I resulted in doing the dropshot rig! this is where the sinker is all the way at the bottom, then somewhere above the sinker is the hook.

This rig was super effective but as I kept fishing i realize that the fish is not at X feet. it's usually between X and Y. Therefore, I have decided to add a 2nd hook to cover both lower and higher in the water column for fish!

To tie the hooks, you first tie the high hook using a palomar knot with extra tag end. Then you take the tag end and feed it back into the eye of the hook so that the hook face upwards (reference video link below)

When you are done, you do it again with 2nd hook, spacing it out properly.

Lastly, you tie your sinker on.

You will need to figure out the distance between the sinker and the two hooks based on where you see fish on the finder, but if you need a rule of thumb, try 6 inch between the sinker and bottom hook and then anywhere from 12-18 inches between the 2 hooks.

Other things to note for gears:
I use braid for the main line as it is more sensitive
I tie a uni to uni knot between the line and the flourocarbon leader (always need a leader! crappies got good eyes)
I use a 7ft, fast tip medium action rod with metallic guides for the best sensitivity as possible.
size 2000 or 3000 reel depending if you got big fish around ya. this rig will catch more than crappies, i landed 7 lb pickerels before too :)

Enjoy this tutorial video. it is my first one, so if you can, leave me some feedback :)
