sandfleas
We went to the beach today to get more sandfleas, we ran out and fished the last two days with fleas given to us by another fisherman. There was not many waves which made it hard to get them, you had to stand there and wait on the right wave, then run down and stick your rake in the sand just as the wave goes back. I caught 2 baby whiting, it amazes me how the little fish live right where the waves crash.
The ocean looks like a big lake
My husband got 2 gallons and I only got 1 gallon, the fleas were small. I would make a pull and see lots of them in my rake, then rinse the sand out and they all but a half cup would fall through my rake.
We blanch the fleas by putting them in boiling water then into ice water
Then lay them on old shirts to get some of the water off of them
We have a tray from when we use to grow clams that we put them on and set it on the AC unit, the fan drys them so when I put them in bags to freeze, they will not stick together.
We got 18 and a half bags, that is enough for 9 days of fishing. Then we will need to get more.
Next time I go to the beach I will look for those things
@blacklux you will only see little vees on the sand when the water washes back to the ocean, I tell people to look for something different than smooth sand. If you see them you can catch some by hand, you run down and dig a bunch of sand and throw it up on the beach they will try to crawl back to the ocean. Or you can keep sand in your hand and look through it. They do not bite or pinch they just crawl with little legs that tickle.
Sounds like a lot of work.
