NOAA Shows 160,000 Pounds Of Marine Trash From Papahanaumokuakea (Western Hawaiian Islands)
NOAA did a five week mission to the remote Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument and collected more that 160,000 pounds of garbage from the reefs and shorelines. The trash was displayed at a press event on Ford Island on Friday, Nov. 9.
This is amazing since there are no people in this area.
Most of this garbage is lost fishing gear. This is a prime example of what we are doing to our oceans. I can't fathom how many fish this lost gear kills as it floats through the oceans.
The worlds nations needs to do something about our over harvesting of the oceans.
We need to support aquaculture.
