Fixing the fish tank & Giant Catfish!!
Hello Fish Lovers,
The fish tank I set up went to the cloudy depths of neglect after a few months of me not being there to maintain it. I should of taken a picture of what it looked like before the pictures below. It was very dirty. It still has a lot of clearing up to do but to keep the safe bacteria in there the fish need to survive, I am taking a few steps over the course of a few days.
The filter I bought originally 9 months ago died and stopped working. Cleaning it didn't work, it burnt out. I was able to get Amazon to return it as a courtesy. I picked up this 20 to 50 gallon filter to put in its place.
This new filter on a 10 gallon tank is overkill but at least I know if its left without a cleaning for awhile everything inside will be somewhat safe. Maybe in the future I can upgrade it to a bigger tank. Especially for the cat fish. When I first got it, it was tiny I didn't think it would grow this big in a small tank. When I returned and it swam out of the cave, I couldn't believe how big it got!
I remember when I first got it months back it was tiny and it only comes out when it's dark or night time. Catfish are nocturnal fish. It actually ate everything I originally had in the tank. I did know they can be predators, but I didn't think it would turn on a small tank like this when the catfish itself was tiny in the begining. It ended up eating a sucker fish (plaeco), 2 mollies that were at least 2 inches long, several tetras, a bug eyed fish and a fresh water blow fish. Lol 😂, I know it's not funny at the same time. Sorry not sorry. Haha I couldn't believe it killed the tank and became king of the fish jungle.
After the recent uproar in the tank I was unable to keep up on the tank for several months. Not by choice, I don't live in the same house as the tank anymore. Now that I have been visiting and was given the chance to fix it up the tank it is doing much better and the cat fish is huge!
Someone put in 5 small goldfish thinking the catfish can eat them. It might but I don't think so, goldfish can be fierce fish another fact not a lot of people know about. They can hold there own. I bought today some small feeder fish that were really cheap. So now the tank has about 10 or 11 small fish and one giant cat fish, it's name is squishy. Lol, I didn't name it. It's squishy the catfish.
If I can in the future I like to get a 20 or even 50 gallon tank and get one more catfish. The existing catfish would grow a little larger in that environment and so would the gold fish. We shall see what the future holds.
Thanks for reading and Steem on my friends!!!!
One more time... The cat fish is huge!!!! Lol
Hey, another aquarium fishtank enthusiast. I've a friend who does this @killuminatic. I hope the catfish doesn't grow into a kraken!
If the kraken wouldn't take out the whole house and behave that be pretty damn cool! lol
Lol.
Hey, one of my tanks has the same Spongebob house deco! My pleco took over Mr Krabs who took owership of spongebob's. Haha. #karma
Haha nice! When i got mine I remember taking it out of a display (no water in the tank), it was the last one and the lady asked me where I got it. I told her the display, she said "you just took it out", I said yea do you want the sale? I had a plaeco in this tank for awhile until the catfish murdered it. RIP. I might start another tank in the future with different fish segregated from the ruthless catfish. Have a good day!!
Time to "steem" the catfish! Lol. No, don't. Haha
Haha no, I want to see if it'll get bigger if I get a bigger tank maybe in the future.
Keep us updated on it's growth! All the best, bro!
