Exchangemare , exchanging-me-crazy. Why recommend coinbase at all?

Hi I'm a newbie to this all and loving it.

Why do many people and pod-casters and beginners articles recommend Coinbase....shreek.
I get its easy - it is easy but its not 1 -4% fee easy
Its like 0.05% easier if i had to quantify it in a fee percentage.

The multitude of exchanges is a serious research speed bump in investing in Crypto responsibly.
