Facial Fireworks In Valencia: Castell de pals a l’antiga
The Gran Fira De Valencia is in full swing. Lasting for nearly the entire month of July, this festival is meant to encourage people to stay in Valencia and not escape into the mountains which surround the city. There are free concerts, theater, cinema, dance and, of course, fireworks. Valencia is world-famous for its fireworks, especially for the unique style called the Mascletà.
But this article is all about the Castell de Pals a l'Antiga: antique fair fireworks on sticks which went to see this Saturday. We had never seen these before, but they used to be a popular way of setting fireworks off back in the days. Of course we had to check them out.
The fireworks started slow and many of the fire-wheels simply wouldn't spin, so there were clearly some mistakes. And three times fireworks, fired off into the crowd on the left hand side (check out the video below to see two of those). Luckily nobody got hurt.
But the fireworks got better and better, as the show went along. Overall, we loved this unique firework display and wish they would incorporate the style into some of the modern fireworks.

Wow! That ferris wheel fireworks looks wonderful and definitely unique. I never seen anything near to this before.
For us, the closer to t a fireworks the better - we've seen and recorded some crazy fireworks in Valencia.
wow lovely post this is! I like fireworks.. captured great!
You have to see them for yourself on day - Valencia has some crazy fireworks.
I've never heard of this festival @for91days. Is it very hot there at the moment?
There was a festival that involved lots of fireworks earlier in the year. Seems they are very popular there. 😊
Yes, that was Fallas - but fireworks are on display all year around. The Gran Fira has all kinds of cultural things going, they actually reduced the amount of fireworks for this festival. But now the town summer festivals are starting - with many more fireworks :)
Valencia is on my list of places to visit @for91days. I'll have to make a note to make sure some sort of festival is on when I go there by the sounds of it. It would be a shame to miss all the fun. although I wouldn't want to stand too close from some of the videos I've seen of the celebrations. 😂
The colours look so gorgeous and bright. I love a European town at night - the lights just really create a beautiful atmosphere. In Australia, fireworks are pretty much illegal, apart from the NT, due to the fire risk they pose. Plus, we are health and safety MAD.
The yellow is created due to those old gas lamps but they're keeping the some light hue with modern LED lamps. During Fallas kids throw fireworks starting when they're 3 or 4. That crazy festival we blogged about in March was threatened by European laws to regulate the fireworks but now Fallas is protected by the UNESCO - so nothing will change and the fun can continue :)
Yay. I wonder if thats the same for the burning of the tar barrels in the UK? That's sooooo crazy dangerous, but I dont think they'd be allowed to stop it!
Congratulations on your curie vote guys! A well deserved one ♥️🤗
Thank you!!!!
Hi @for91days,
As always another great travel post! With our Independence Day celebrations happening over the past week here in the U.S. it is great to see other fireworks celebrations around the world. For us it is usually more a launching them into the air type of set up. It is nice to see a more grounded and elaborate design element to this display. Thanks for sharing!
