Sadly, Mitch passed away just a few days after I posted that. It was apparently a particularly fast-spreading cancer, and I found out later he'd started chemo just in the hopes that he would survive through the holidays.
Oh, I'm very sorry about that. My deepest sympathy to his relatives and to you, the former troop.
Perhaps it is a consolation that this was the end of a great suffering...
