Fire at Koh Phi Phi 6th February 2018

The fire started about 10.30pm just as the nightlife was starting to get going. It seems to have started (as it is not clear on the cause yet) near the interesection of the main street where it connects with the path down to Slinky Bar. There are many street stalls down these street.

I hope noone was hurt but as yet I dont know the detail. Please add info here if you know more or link to further News channels with more detail.

It was bound to happen with such lasiez faire attitude to cooking in confined spaces. In fact it's a surprise it doesnt happen more often. Having said all that, it doesnt account for the Thai culture which is full of surprising insights into life and a street level intolerance for mistakes. So if Thai people do mess up, they get crucified. It does, even though everyone looks so relaxed, keep Thai people on their toes.

Koh Phi Phi is full of those red fire suppressant canisters but I'm not sure many locals know how to use them. If you are caught in a fire situation, just pick one up and use it.
