How to survive in the wilderness: Part 4, making a fire on the beach

in #fire7 years ago

Hello, my name is David and the goal of this series is to give you some ideas on how to hike. The series will end with a few days trip to an island where I will find all my food in nature. If you have not read the rest of the series, I would recommend you to read them first.

You are stranded on a beach, and you are freezing. There are not much wood here, and most of it are wet, so what do you do? You will almost always find a lot of trash on beaches these days. Usually, this is bad, but in an emergency situation, it may save your life.
You will need something dry and matches or a lighter, and all the plastic you can find. Remember, burning plastic is not recommended as it is very polluting, but in an emergency, everything is legal.
Start by collecting enough to keep the fire alive a while. Make a small fire using dry paper or a piece of wood. If you are able to make the plastic burn, almost everything will burn. You can now look for something to boil water in, like a tin can or even a plastic bottle if you are careful. Now you can find some food, and you have a pretty comfy camp for the night.
