S/S Laitiala
I was out to go to the supermarket a couple of hours ago. I decided to make a quick visit to the harbour to see if there was anything interesting to photograph. Just as I was leaving, a crew member who had gone into the ship to get something came out. I started a conversation with him about the ship and he invited me in to take a look.
S/S Laitiala
S/S Laitiala is a steam ship built in Varkaus, Finland in 1903. The engine is a compound steam engine according to the page where steam is expanded in two or more stages, first in a high-pressure cylinder. The fuel is light fuel oil. The ship serves as a restaurant ship in Lake Vesijärvi. Before Lahti, it was used as a restaurant ship in the town of Savonlinna in Lake Saimaa.
The ship is owned by Lahden Järvimatkailu Oy. It is available as a venue for private celebratios, family functions etc. Inquiries at [email protected].
Four decks
A bar in the aft
Nice lamps
The restaurant
The ship was refurbished in 1998 but much of the interior looks original at least in style.

This is another picture of the ship I took in May

Wow the last picture is amazing ! I think it would be a lot of fun to go on this boat with the company or a bunch of friends !
Man this ship looks like a beauty. A steam engine ship of all things! I guess they are not as uncommon as one might think.
A classic use case of such ship could obviously be a restaurant like this one. It is quite a marketing strategy as well, because if I see a restaurant on a steam engine ship then I am definitely coming aboard for lunch :-)
Hi markku. I am glad that people are looking after these things. They are not that common ,and it is history that is being looked after for generations to come.
This is interesting. I have not been inside one before. But I love this.
You noticed the first photo the bird that is in the mast ..
If you are right internally, it has a lot of style. and have ever tasted the food of that restaurant
