Hot Day + Car Update + Mytäjäinen Beach

The daily maximum temperature was about 31 C today at about five pm. In the afternoon I went to get some lunch and it felt really hot.

What species is this plant?

The shop I took my Toyota to had ordered inner tie rod ends from three different manufacturers and none fit. The foreman I talked to told me he'd contact the insurance company as there would be little choice but to order a new gear rod with the two tie rod ends that come with it. Toyota only sells those parts together. At the very least the insurance company will cover the left inner tie rod end (axial joint) that needs replacement, the work that goes into replacing it and the wheel alignment. I would expect them to cover everything because honest effort has been made to find only a single inner tie rod end that fits. Also, the insurance company guy on the phone sounded like he wanted to make sure everything would be ok. We'll see. But even if they did not cover the gear rod that alone would be of significant help.

Later in the evening I went for a swim in Lake Mytäjäinen (a pond really). Mytäjäinen is on the south side of the Salpausselkä I ridge close to the city centre. The soil is mostly gravel, moraine and sand. There is no discharge from the lake (pond) and there are many sources under the surface adding to the rain water that accumulates in it. How does the surface stay at a constant level? Could the water be seeping through the soil into the ground water? It has to.

Here's the beach. Notice the radio towers in the background. They're on top of the highest local point on the ridge.

There were bubbles coming from under the sand near the waterfront at the beach. What gas could that be? The sandy beach is artificial. The sand was mostly brought from elsewhere. Could those bubbles come from decomposing organic material under the sand?
