RE: A Finishthestory Short Story: The Extraordinary Café

The brownie parted revealing the melted choco-chips which separated into rich strands as Matt lifted the spoon

I had to stop and get a brownie to eat while i read it, damn you should be in advertising!! Very much appreciate how you picked up the brownies in the second half and wove them in as the background to the story.

But oh my word, sarez you always manage to come up all kind of wonderful action takes, but here, you keep the focus on the characters, and tell a heart-wrenching story of the struggle to let go that packs just as much of a punch. Your descriptions are so delightful, you paint such a vivid scene captivating the senses as well as the imagination, but the way you play the story, the first half being a ritual he goes through, unable to break the routine of waiting for her, like he always did. You convey so much in the subtle details, Kamil identifying himself as the overseas uncle carrying the weight of a long relationship, where that much would be all the information it would take. The way Kamil talks to him, calling him out on blaming her for dying. The anger of shared grief comes across, different people addressing the same loss, a real and relatable feeling set of emotions on both sides. You handle a emotional confrontation with such delicacy, bringing Matt (and the reader with him) through a whole spectrum of emotion, to finally settle on acceptance.

I particularly like the ending, the sadness of a happy memory able to take a step towards full circle, allowing the happy memory to live as that once more.
