I had two impressions from the last line--forgive me if they defy your intent. First I thought: ah, objective reality (the paper under the door) proves the existence of the yellow king. Then I thought: this madman, Mendo, came across yellow promotional flyers and constructed a grotesque fantasy from his diseased obsessions. I think I like the second idea better, but either one works for me. Well told.
