This film is a cross between "the Babadook" and "the Exorcist" Although not quite up to "Witch" levels of creepiness , this Spanish language film provides plenty of damn eerie, if not downright terrifying scenes.

Based on actual events, a young teenage girl takes on the role of caregiver for her three younger siblings as her father is deceased and her mother spends all of her time serving at a dive restaurant to make ends meet.

Burdened by overwork, strict Catholic schooling, and grief at her father's death, Veronica decides to employ the powers of the Ouiji board to seance with her late father. Unfortunately, the result isn't exactly what she hoped for as the session marks a strange decent into paranoia and worse.

There are three factors that make this film very good - if you enjoy fear:

  1. Excellent yet unpretentious acting - nothing cheesy or corny.
  2. Gritty unpolished scenes.
  3. Chilling juxtaposition between pure child-like innocence and pure evil.
  4. Not too much is revealed.
