US (film): It's ok, but i don't understand the hype to be honest
After seeing the first Jordan Peele film entitled "Get Out" (which was actually really good) I was excited to see his sophomore approach to film-making. Contrary to the popular opinion on this movie, i found it to be boring and even annoying at times.

It's not that the story isn't good, because in a way it is good, plus once you have all the pieces to the puzzle (not gonna spoil that for ya) the story becomes even better. However, along the way there are aspects of the movie that are just too impractical for me to get on board with the entire thing.

I have to admit that the imagery of spooky demon kids always appeals to me, and this film does an excellent job of this especially at the hands of child actresses Madison Curry and Shahadi Wright Joseph.
The film is told in a "flashback" type sense where the main character Adelaide Wilson was traumatized as a kid when her parents were visiting a beach on her birthday many years ago. While I understand it is crucial to the story, the fact that they would ever go to this place intentionally, let alone without her ever telling her family about that horrible day in her youth, is kind of impractical.
I can't really say too much more because if you are to enjoy this movie, you have to go in blind, the trailer only reveals a bit about what the story is, and I believe that if you are even going to attempt to enjoy this film, you have to know almost nothing about the plot.
While the overall story of this film is pretty interesting and thought-provoking, i had a hard time digesting the story because of the silly situations that the family found themselves in and perhaps that was intentional on the part of Jordan Peele. If nothing else, I do enjoy how there is a running soundtrack of "I got 5 on it" by Luniz, which was one of my favorite hip hop songs from the 90's.
Don't get me wrong. This is a good movie. I just don't think it is as good as the critics make it out to be.
Yeah, I was also pretty let down by this movie. Get Out was fucking fantastic, and there was such a huge hype train going for this film, then I saw it and was just really underwhelmed. There wasn't a single time I felt super tense or got scared throughout it. Some creepy/interesting stuff for sure, but yeah. Just a big stinky let down for me. I still give the movie around a 6.5 or 7 out of 10, but I don't think I'll ever probably watch it again.
There's just so much stuff that doesn't make sense, and the movie doesn't really seem to follow any kinds of rules at all. Maybe I just couldn't fully suspend my disbelief for this, but I just think the movie could have been a lot better in many different aspects. But, there was just a lot of shit that made my peepee flaccid. Bonus points though for having Tim Heidecker from Tim and Eric play a murderer.
my favorite part was when the only zombie that can talk explained that it took years of planning to get everyone out of the bunker.... yeah, well the escalator was right there and it didn't seem like anyone was stopping you from using it.
I actually enjoyed it though...matched the hype in my opinion.... That could also do with the fact that I absolutely love horror movies
However, along the way there are aspects of the movie that are just to impractical for me to get on board with the entire thing.
I am so with you on this. I really enjoyed Peel Jordan's last movie, "Get Out" in many sense. However, "Us" was somewhat confusing, or not making sense for me.
i regret that i used the improper form of "too" in that sentence. Thanks for accidentally pointing it out. It has been corrected. :)
Couldn't agree more!
The hype was the Killswitch here.
Luckily I've watched this movie without any expectation.
Lupita Nyongo shows her power here, magnificent character!

get out was awesome.. this one i couldnt even finish 😕✌️ from all that hype i was expecting more.. maybe on the next one?👍
Thanks. I do not have time for boring.
I think a lot of the buzz for this movie was just because his first one was so good. If Get Out hadn't of been as phenomenal as it was, this one might have not gotten as good of reviews as it did. Just like M Knight, it took a couple of real stinkers before the hype died down and people really started walking away from him.
