Bangkok Dangerous (film) awful on many levels

in #films6 years ago (edited)

Nick Cage is one of those guys that has a few great acting moments under his belt and also a bunch of garbage. This falls into the second category but it was also a bit of an eye-roller for me because of the depiction of the country and his strange relationship goals that develop.

Nick plays Joe who is a contract killer with very specific disciplines which include never meeting the client and never socializing with anyone in the community that he is hired in. A methodology that he immediately abandons upon arriving in Bangkok. Maybe the people are just too friendly there.

He finds a local pickpocket named "Kong" who serves as his helper in setting up the hits. Kong is nice enough but then later on in the film Joe decides to start to train him to also be an assassin, which is just odd. The weirdest part of the movie is that he takes time out of his usually-very-disciplined routine to wine and dine "Fon," a deaf and mute pharmacist that he basically can not communicate with. I think maybe they were trying to capitalize on the endearing sentiment of "Leon" but it simply doesn't work.

Forgive me for being a bit cynical here, but being in a cross cultural relationship is difficult enough whether or not you are a hit-man. Being in a relationship where it is impossible for you to talk to one another is just a silly thing to include in the film and all of their interactions are simply filler for this very slow-moving action film.

I wouldn't even say that this is Cage's fault that this movie was a dud (and subsequently failed to make back its production budget of $45 million,) it is the fault of the writers. As much as I hate to follow the herd I have to agree with the critics and most of the public when I say that this film is a waste of time.

on a scale of "blech!" to "Wowsers!" I give Bangkok Dangerous a

"Skipsies!

Ok now I have to watch this movie because it's Nicolas Cage (not the bees not the bees aaaahhh) and I like his movies even if many of them are not that good.

not the bees! haha. always love that reference.

I think the way you rate a film really makes me laugh, i mean why skipsies hahaha. The writer really did a poor job and the director also was no topnotch in his directing. To me i blame Nicholas cage for taking the major role and even for accepting to be the actor of a film that is not well organize and the storyline was awful @gooddream

Well it's nicholas cage, if you look at the roles he took it's obvious that he takes every role even if it's a bad one xD

I think for your explanation, I will go for 'wowsers'.

ha! ok. Well, i think there are a lot better movies than this one... even much better Cage movies.

Yes, i agree with you.

One of my favorite actors, who is not making as many movies now as when he grew up watching his big releases, I really love it is a good movie, greetings my friend.

I love Nicolas Cage, I haven't seen this film, it didn't catch my attention and I see that the plot isn't very attractive to me, but I could make the time to see it just for Cage, hahaha. Thanks, friend @gooddream. Happy day to you.
