RE: Legend (film): Fantastic fantasy experience nobody watched

in #films6 years ago

After the brilliant "Alien" Ridley Scott created a brilliant "Blade Runner", unfortunately, completely not understood by the public. The picture gained its cult status after years, becoming an indisputable standard among fans of science fiction. The same fate befell the next picture of the director. Appeared in 1985 on the screens "Legend" was waiting for the indifference of spectators and commercial failure. This wonderful fairy tale was tasted only after she appeared on the home video and now this tape rightfully occupies a place of honor among such recognized films as "Die Unendliche Geschichte", "Labyrinth", "The Princess Bride"
Immediately I want to note that the plot here is rather secondary, and on the first place there is an amazing, viscous atmosphere, a chic visual series, an unmatched soundtrack from Tangenine Dream. The artist and the tape operator created an amazing, stunning world populated by goblins, fairies, dwarves ... A world that lives by its laws, where the delicate balance of Good and Evil can be broken only by one touch of the mortal.
Believe in this country Fantasy helps the audience and the ensemble of the tape, among which only the young Tom Cruise looks pale, who just started his Hollywood career and thundered in "Risky Business" Paul Brickman. The actor confidently copes with the tricks, but still it is not quite possible to accurately depict the hero. Alas, but in my opinion, in the Legend, it's being overplayed by almost everyone - both stunning (Oscar from the great Die Blechtrommel by Volker Schlöndorff), David Bennent in the role of Gump, and the refined Mia Sarah, whose role in this film was debut, and, of course, the chic Tim Curry, whose image of the Lord of Darkness is impressive so far, even after more than 25 years.
In the distant 1985 many hastened to call "Legend" the creative failure of Ridley Scott, which had a negative impact on his career, and the ovation of the director was thwarted six years later, in 1991, when the film "Thelma & Louise" was released. And Legend, for the time being, is the only creation of the director in the genre of fantasy, fully conforming to his own statement - "I love to create new worlds."
