Psychological analysis of films
Every movie achievement necessarily involves psychology. Psychology of characters, stories, complications…
Below are five films in which the psychological concepts are well structured. As a student of psychology, I analyze this movies :
1. The Godfather (1972)
Description of the movie: Cultural Fim, for many of the best of all time, follows the story of the Corleone family that is at the highest peak of the New York mafia hierarchy. In the first part, the head of the Don Vito Corleone family is on target of his opponents, and he has to find the successor to continue the family business because his life can end in a mafia war. The title of "Godfather" (successor), in the end, belongs to his son Michael, who initially does not want to go to his father's footsteps. Nevertheless, he accepts this, in these circles honorable and life-giving a dangerous role, and the time for the Corleone family is getting harder. All the peripets that follow Michael and the rest of the family are shown in two more sequels to the film.
Psycho-spectrum: In this movie, we can see people who value and preserve family values, are loyal and faithful to their roots, but when it comes to dealing with enemies, then any trace of humanity is lost and then we get to know the real side of the mafia. "The Godfather" in a brilliant way demonstrates how actually a thin boundary between a real hero and an antihero might be, but also shows us that nothing is black or white; No one is just a hero or his opponent. The dominant pattern of behavior of this New York mafia is antisocial behavior, but here we can see how this form is embedded in a child since childhood.
2. The Silence of the Lambs (1991)
Description of the movie: The young FBI agent Claris Starling works with her colleagues on a serial killer case who brutally kills and chases women. In order to get more information about the killer, the team working on this investigation decides to cooperate with Hannibal Lecter, also a serial killer and a cannibal who once was a respected psychiatrist, and is now serving a lifelong imprisonment. Thus begins a complex psychological game between an extremely intelligent psychopath and a young, but vicious FBI agent. The character of Hannibal Lector liked the fans to the extent that he later captured several sequences that reveal his history at a deeper level than the initial film.
Psycho-spectrum: The character of Hannibal Lector is an illustrative example of an antisocial personality disorder. It is clear that an antisocial personality disorder does not necessarily imply brutality at the level of cannibalism, nor high intelligence, but Hanibal Lektor, with his curiosity, resourcefulness and calmness, has liked the vast majority of the audience. This role of Sir Anthony Hopkins in an excellent way has presented a seductive mask of an antisocial personality disorder, behind which brutality can be hidden beyond the reach of a large part of humanity. This is another movie psycho who picked up the sympathy of the audience.
3. Forrest Gump (1994)
Description of the film: "Forest Gamp" is a story about the same name boy who is mentally retarded. So we meet Forester from his childhood, we meet his first crush of Jenna, all the way to the Vietnam War and numerous historical events in which, by accident, he participated. So we get to know his principles and behavior in detail, and his reactions often leave us without text
Psycho-spectrum: Forest is insufficiently mentally developed, but its reasoning and behavior during the film were guided by benevolence, dedication and genuine concern for other people. In this way, viewers are asked to wonder if intelligence, as it is usually thought, is really the most important quality that can provide us with a fulfilling life. Forest Gamp offers some other values than those we usually consider crucial and thus reminds us that intelligence can be compensated for a good heart, but it can not be the opposite.
4. Fight Club (1999)
Description of the film: an insomniac office worker, looking for a way to change his life, crosses paths with a devil-may-care soap maker, forming an underground fight club that evolves into something much, much more.
Psycho-spectrum: As a whole, the "Fight Club" is a critique of contemporary society that, while dealing with trivial matters, does not pay attention to significant things. At the individual level, this is a story of a bunny that is so powerful that it leads to a dissociative split of identity - by creating a new one that will be all that we are not, and we want to be. This is also a story of friendship, the struggle for ideals, the justification of disobedience, the love between not adapted people, in which unreasonableness is actually a healthy response to society and what it propagates through its values.
5. Black Swan (2010)
Description of the film: Nina is an ambitious ballerina who wants to play a role in the performance of "Black Swan" at any cost. The troubles arise when a new, talented ballerina Lily finds in the game, which brings even more confusion into Nin's and so confused life. Nina lives with a demanding and strict mother, and through the film we are introduced to her sexual and social negligence; The boundary between what is really happening and what is in Nina's head throughout the film is very fluid.
Psycho-spectrum: It turns out that the main character of this film is suffering from psychosis. At first glance, it is difficult to merge a young ballerina that initially shows neurotic lines, and with the escalation of the story, the hallucinations of reality come to the full extent. One question that all the fans of this film are struggling it - is Nina's mother real or is another of her hallucinations? The editor left us to choose which version we like better. In the film, Nina's social and sexual immaturity is remarkable, and the symbolism between the role of White and Black Swan represents the battle of reason and illness in the inner world of the main heroine of the film. The film shows how difficult the life of psychotic people is.
