Good Time(2017)

Good Time is a movie about the shape of a brother's affection to his sister, but this is not a drama. Place the brother's position with an exploding thug whose daily lives with chaos and chaotic social conditions, sums up in a claustrophobic overnight adventure, then we get an explosive, explosive thriller film.
The films of two brothers Josh Safdie & Ben Safdie is no longer a matter of plot but more to the intensity and momentum. Because the thug is a spontaneous, unthinking young man, there is a tense uncertainty about where his story moves. We are just like the main characters, feeling the panic and unrest in every incident that happened. The character is Connie Nikas who played with extraordinary intensity by Robert Pattinson , a former young idol who once loved girls through Twilight . Sorry girls, Edward is now a street thug.
Since the first scene, we've seen that Connie is not a polite man. The film opens with a counseling scene that Nick lived (played directly by Ben Safdie), a mentally retarded person with little difficulty in communicating or socializing. Just as the psychiatrist starts digging up Nick's childhood, Connie breaks the door and brings her sister out to have a good time . And good time in the definition is to rob the bank.

The situation quickly became chaotic. The trap inside the bag exploded and they were chased by the police. Connie manages to escape, but Nick gets caught. Connie is a gangster but fortunately is resourceful, smart ngeles, and able to take decisions very agile. He can always find a way to get out of one problem by doing various improvisations. Unfortunately, every solution always culminates in a bigger problem.
Initially, Connie asked to lend money to his girlfriend ( Jennifer Jason Leigh ) to pay bail for the younger brother. But when it failed because his credit card blocked, Connie increasingly desperate. We will then be taken on a 24-hour adventure downtown about Connie trying to find ways to free her sister down New York City, from the streets, the hospital, to the playground.
Safdie brothers invite us into the dark side of urban life, with real-life urgency ala Michael Mann and Sidney Lumet movies but saturated by cinematographer Sean Price Williams with striking neon colors. Their cameras mostly stick to the Pattinson character. The more intense his character encounters, the tighter the camera grip, which then gives a kind of energetic but also claustrophobic feel at the same time. Electronic music from Oneohtrix Point Never roars escalating every moment. This film relies on the atmosphere, but good does not feel like going to show off.
What makes the film more lively is how Safdie brothers decorate his background with the relevant social situation, especially in America. We can see from the supporting characters Connie encountered. For example, the complicated problem Connie started from the bail system ( bail system ) that berbutrut. Jennifer Jason Leigh looks very attractive as a mature woman who is still bipolar like a newborn girl. On one occasion, Connie accidentally encounters Ray ( Buddy Duress ), a retail drug dealer who seems more chaotic than Connie. Safdie's incompatibilities about a friendly plot are increasingly evident by presenting two black characters: Crystal ( Gladys Mathon ), a 16-year-old girl who accidentally engages in Connie's adventures, and a security guard ( Barkhad Abdi ) who even becomes an innocent victim.
Pattinson has proved that he can act in films like The Rover and The Lost City of Z , but Good Time is probably his best performance. Arguably, but clearly this is the most extreme transformation. He was bearded, hairy, plus pierced, but the more impressive was his thugs abis. He is so unlikable , we can barely sympathize with him except for his very affectionate- sisterly choice and how strongly Pattinson's performance is.
Good Time is an ironic title, because none of the movie characters are having a good time here (well, except the bail guy who got free money). This is an ugly movie considering some of the choices that made his character contrary to morals. But I like ugly movies as they are effective (eg, Nocturnal Animals ). Good Time is intense and energetic. But this is not escapism. He will bother us, make us uncomfortable. Yet we're having a good time .
