Mukkabaaz (2018) - Movie review / Mike Tyson of Benaras

in #film6 years ago

One filmmaker in Bollywood whose movies I really look upto is Anurag Kashyap. And his movies are known for making the audience uncomfortable. After a couple of unsuccessful movies he is back with "Mukkabaaz", a sports and political drama based on a true story. The movie is painfully motivating and can be considered as one of the best film this year. Kashyap doesn't hesitate to show the dirty side of India, his movies dipicts the reality in its purest form.

Shravan Singh is a struggling boxer who wants to make it big. But, he has to go through a lot of politics. Bhagwan Das will be the incharge of the entire boxing league in Barieli and he will be misusing the upcoming boxers to do his daily chores and promising them to make them the next Mike Tyson. Shravan will rebel against this and tries to go big individually and also falls in love with Bhagwan's nephew. The movie is Shravan's fight for his love and his boxing career. Coming from a lower cast Shravan will be facing all sorts of caste discrimination that will be effecting his love with higher cast girl and also in his boxing career.

The movie tries to show the reality of being a sportsman in India. The government doesn't spend a lot of money on the athelets and whatever money that is sent will be stollen by the corrupt authories that will be handling it. More priority will be given to the higher caste players, bearing all these problems and making it to the top is a big task. Still a lot good sportsman break out of all these shakles and make it big. With everyone sucking blood off of these talented people, most of the battle will be done before reaching the real game leaving with no energy to play the game properly.

The typical parents in India always wants their kids to study and get a government job. Here success means a government job. Shravan's parents being the same will be forcing him to take up a job. There is a funny scene where he is having this conversation with his parents and its the most funniest conversation I have ever heard in a film.

This is a must watch movie. With all the genre bending factors to make this film an enjoyable journey. Thank you for reading this post. For more posts and reviews on movies follow me. Cheers!

I will defnitely watch it. Its good when a Director shows the truth about a country. Thx

Anurag Kashyap was involved in a furious Twitter Debate recently regarding his stance on a) Singing National Anthem in Cinemas b) Beef conspiracy that has engulfed UP for quite some time

And what does he do? He brilliantly responds to his critics by showing his point of view through cinema.

Particularly the scene in the climax when Mukkabaaz aka Vineet Singh punches Jimmy Shergil in face and shouts 'bharat mata ki jai' repeatedly is the high point of this movie.

Anurag Kashyap has managed to pull off another great one!
