Heat - Lets talk film / The beauty of chaos

in #film7 years ago (edited)

What makes “Heat” one of the best movies in its genre is the performances by legends Al Pachino and Robert DeNiro and the story which has elements of good crime film and also its philosophies which makes it feel like art film. This film inspired many of the crime film and most importantly Christopher Nolan’s Batman series. The movie starts with a robbery scene, we can see the resemblance to the robbery scene from “The Dark Knight”.

Written and directed by Michael Mann, the movie is based on the life of Neil McCauley, a professional thief and the cop Chuck Adamson who catches him. The interesting detail in this film is that the cop Vincent Hanna played by Al Pachino is crazy and insane. Whereas, the thief Neil McCauley played by Robert DeNiro is a very calm and intelligent person. By doing this the film became much more unpredictable, the runtime of the film is 2 hours and 45 minutes, this is a big film but every second of this is handcrafted and is very engaging.

Everyone in the gang of Neil McCauley have their own families, their family doesn’t know anything about their work. And Vincent Hanna will also be having a wife and a daughter. His daughter is someone who doesn’t get attention from her parents and who leads a very disturbed life. Both of them will not be able to balance their work and life. Even if you are a cop or a thief, when you go back to your home you are nobody.

The most celebrated scene of the film is when Hanna and McCauley meet each other for the first time in the cafe. Every single word in their conversation is written beautifully. The philosophies of Hanna and McCauley, is revealed in this scene.

The bank robbery scene, where McCauley will tells the hostages “We are here for the banks money not your money. Your money is insured by federal reserve”. This dialogue shows us the intelligence of McCauley and how he handles things so easily.

Ahh one of my favorite films. Ominous, operatic, often emulated but never equaled. This is go-for-broke, GOAT-level filmmaking - not only upending expectations but exceeding them with unanticipated success in its elegant, exciting examination of existential and emotional entropy.
