 Evil lives within you.

An elderly woman battling Alzheimer's disease agrees to let a film crew document her condition, but what they discover is something far more sinister going on.

Spoiler free area!

The Taking of Deborah Logan is written and directed by Adam Robitel. It stars Jill Larson as the title character Deborah Logan and Anne Ramsay as her daughter Sarah Logan.

Jill Larson is good as the tormented Deborah Logan and Anne Ramsay is also good as her daughter Sarah Logan, who had to deal with her mothers increasingly mysterious illness. The rest of the cast are just your typical horror movie cannon fodder who you don't really care what happens to.

This movie suffered from the cliched jump scare with loud sound effects. I could tell it was coming a mile away as everything went silent before it happened, which totally ruined the suspense it had created before hand. It was a wasted opportunity that traded in suspense building for some cheap jump scares that were not executed that well.

This movie had the potential to be great if it focused on one horror aspect instead of two. The movie lost what it originally set out to do which was to focus on mental illness and instead falls into the trap of trying to gain easy scares at the expense of storytelling.

They also reused the same old situation over and over again which is used as the catalyst to try and build suspense, it works for a while but after repeated use it gets predictable and boring. The characters also do the opposite of what rational people would do in a similar situation.

I could accept viewing footage from the cameras in one setting which be understandable but having footage captured independent from the filmmaker's cameras in another more public place is hard for me to see as realistic and removes you from the perspective of the camera holder which is what found footage films are supposed to be about.

The closing scenes also reminded me of another well known found footage film which i really liked and couldn't help but see the similarities, which put a smile on my face.

This movie was a wasted opportunity to tell a frightening tale of mental illness but opted for an easy way out and chose to shift the story to another horror aspect that has been done before and done better than this movie.

6/10 - This movie is nothing new in the horror movie genre and suffers from the same problems as other found footage movies. This acting in this movie is what makes it a cut above the others.
