Pauly Shore Appreciation Month: Celebrating Everyone's Favourite Weasel

March was Pauly Shore Appreciation Month here at the Movie Stakeout precinct, and Dick Japowski has been digging deep into the cold cases. It's a Shore thing!!

Jury Duty (1995)
When the Weasel learns that he will be put up in a nice hotel and paid 5 dollars a day if the trial he is assigned to goes long, he does everything in his power to drag it out but soon learns that justice isn't just for some but for all.
Loaded with great character actors like Brian Doyle-Murray, Stanley Tucci, Abe Vigoda, the first half of this is pretty funny but unfortunately dips in the second half when lessons are being learned.

In the Army Now (1994)
A couple of ambitious goof offs join the army reserves after learning they can make a lot of money, but you guessed it, they get called up to war. Weaponizing the Weasel should have been funnier than what we get but this is an easy watch which will give you a gentle smile at the very least.

Pauly Shore Stands Alone (2014)
Documentary following the Wea-sel driving from club to club in snowy Wisconsin doing what he loves most, stand up comedy, whilst also coming to terms with his mother's failing health.
It's clear from this film that Shore truly loves his touring life and that people still love him in every Town he visits, but you also get a sense of sadness that he never met anyone he wanted to settle down with and have a family, wondering if it's to late for him? And as people still see him as a party dude, unfortunately he may be right?

Encino Man a.k.a. California Man (1992)
Pauly Shore and Sean Astin play a couple of unpopular high schoolers who's fortunes change when they dig up a frozen cave man (Brenda Fraser) in their garden! They then proceed in turning him into the ultimate party weasel.
A super fun, nostalgic watch and I consider the "wheezing the juice" line up there with the best contributions to cinema.

Phantom of the Mall: Eric's Revenge (1989)
An update of the phantom of the opera story for the slasher generation, with a script and an fx budget of an Ed Wood movie. But most importantly does Pauly Shore survive and what is left of him? You'll be glad to hear his career did!

Pauly Shore is Dead (2003)
Feeling under appreciated and visited by the ghost of Sam Kinison, Pauly fakes his own death so he can see how the world reacts when he's gone. A funny concept that unfortunately is executed poorly. It's is a shame to end Pauly month on a wet noodle but this Hollywood love fest will make you cringe.
