All the latest Movieland investigations from detectives Dick japowski and Joey Arizona.

A Shore Thing: Celebrating everyone's favourite weasel...It's Pauly Shore Appreciation Month! with Dick Japowski.
Encino Man a.k.a. California Man (1992)
Pauly Shore and Sean Astin play a couple of unpopular high schoolers who's fortunes change when they dig up a frozen cave man (Brenda Fraser) in their garden! They then proceed in turning him into the ultimate party weasel.
A super fun, nostalgic watch and I consider the "wheezing the juice" line up there with the best contributions to cinema.

The Lion King 2019.jpg

The Many Views of Detective Dick Japowski
The Lion King (2019)
Jon Faveru's retelling of the lion king is a real enigma. Completely unnecessary, but totally satisfying and a visual wonder that won me over and I was one of the biggest Lion King fans when the original came out in 1994. I even owned the Simba hot water bottle cover!
Purists may not be able to get on board but your children will love it so let them!

The Arizona Case Files
The Sword in the Stone (1963)
A young servant is befriended by a wizard who believes the boy is destined for greatness.
One of my favourite Disney movies as a kid, but one that doesn't hold my interest as easily as an adult. Still plenty of great moments though, particularly the third act.

Thor Tales of Asgard.jpg

The Arizona Case Files
Thor: Tales of Asgard (2011)
A young warrior prince who has never been truly tested, and his magic wielding brother stow away on expedition headed by three of Asgards most skilled fighters. Thor just wants to prove himself, but inadvertently starts a war between his kingdom and the Frost Giants.
Marvel's animated efforts are an incredibly mixed bag, Tales of Asgard falls into the small pile of good ones. A fun story that explorers the mythology more in 77 minutes than the MCU has in 13 years.

The Many Views of Detective Dick Japowski
Kamen Rider Drive saga: Mach and Heart (2016)
Spin off stories for Kamen Rider Drive's secondary characters. Heart being the antagonist in the series gets his shot at redemption as he partners up with Gen, the comedy relief from the show and finds his inner strength to rider up. Mach must protect a girl from a raging roidmude.
Niche heroics from Japan, in a series that anything can happen!

The Arizona Case Files
Straight Outta Compton (2015)
Biopic of Gansta Rap pioneers N.W.A, from their begins up to the death of founding member Eazy-E.
Some biopics can drag, trying to fit in all the 'important' stuff, but Straight Outta Compton flies through it's two and a half hour runtime.

The Arizona Case Files
Yes Man (2008)
Carl Allen is in a rut, but after attending a seminar on the power of yes, where by you say yes to every opportunity that comes you way, is life takes off in many weird and wonderful directions.
A fun concept, based on Danny Wallace's own social experiment, but one where Jim Carrey is completely miscast. Not only does he look considerably older than his friends and love interest, he also has zero chemistry with them.

A Shore Thing: Celebrating everyone's favourite weasel...It's Pauly Shore Appreciation Month! with Dick Japowski.
Phantom of the Mall: Eric's Revenge (1989)
An update of the phantom of the opera story for the slasher generation, with a script and an fx budget of an Ed Wood movie. But most importantly does Pauly Shore survive and what is left of him? You'll be glad to hear his career did!
First watch: 2 out of 5 head scarves
