RE: Film Review: Silver Bullet (1985)

in #film5 years ago

I've always viewed Silver Bullet as The Lost Boys, only with werewolves. I know Bullet came out two years earlier, but it's still a movie aimed at the 80's "brat pack" crowd where, sure, there's some blood and the werewolf is horrible and all, but there's plenty of laughs and nobody's really taking the whole thing as seriously as they probably should...except for Cory Haim.

If only Silver Bullet could have had Alex Winter pulling off his Malkavian-style craziness. Ah, what might have been. :D

Lovely review as always, and it blows my mind so few people are reading these. Oi, @c-squared, this lady here's one to watch! :)

Yes, there are a lot of similarities. Both films have a kind of innocent, fun vibe to them that you don't see in horror films of today. (Not to mention the presence of Corey Haim!)

But since The Lost Boys also features older teens, there's a bit more of a sexy and dangerous "edge" to that film. It also has an epic "twist" in making Edward Herrmann, aka Mom's boyfriend, the head vampire.

I honestly think the better twist in The Lost Boys comes from having Grandpa reveal he's known about the vampire problem all along. "One thing about living in Santa Carla I never could stomach:all the damn vampires."

And, like, you couldn't have maybe told your daughter and grandchildren about these things before they uprooted their lives and moved there? :D

Yeah, Grandpa is a hoot! BTW, it was filmed in Santa Cruz, CA and most of the locations are still there. Santa Cruz's city government puts out a printed guide to all the locations.
