“Start-Up Stories” with Uduak Samuel (MDU Clothing)
Uduak discusses her experiences as a starting Designer in Nigeria. When we recorded this interview, MDU Clothing's workshop operated from a detached outdoor garage at her parent’s residence in Rumuola, in oil-rich Port Harcourt.
It is still on my bucket-list to showcase a lot of small businesses in my community and help them share their stories to the world, through my works as a Filmmaker. We shot this very one back in January and I have been a bit reluctant to send it out since, because the audio was largely ruined by the noise from a construction site a few tens of meters away, when all we had was this two-walled workshop. To make it less exciting, I had very little b-roll footages to play with while editing the documentary. It never really came together for me, until recently.

I am not an expert but the video seems to me well, including audio! In any case, the content exceeds the form because it is really interesting to hear how these women put it all together with passion to do their job! And did you study to make videos or are you a car teacher?

I am currently teaching myself film making, thanks to the internet and the generous effort of other creators who are ever so generous with their experience and knowledge 🙂

Such a lovely start up story you got in there. It's always a great feeling to be inspired by others, just like you did in there. And like I tell people all the time, an advice is really worth for all the time so even when they are passing and they hear anyone advising, they should just pick up a word from it to keep them going all the time.
I really enjoyed every single word in there and the story had inspired me as well to build my own empire. Thanks a lot for sharing.

I have a great respect for people like her. She most likely went through a lot in order to set up her own shop and there she is, working on her dream to come true. I love the fact that she has a sketchbook and drawing her own designs on paper. I love that. The dresses look great by the way.
