The best Christmas movie. ( Your solution for the holidays)

in #film8 years ago (edited)

So we are officially in December and that means it's holiday season… a nice period when you spend time with your family and have some nice food. However there is a small issue. I’ve noticed that movies made for this time of the year can be a bit too family oriented, looking a bit too much for the common lower denominator. And that can be fine, there is a time and place for everything, but if you want to sneak an awesome film into your family time, look no further.

Here is you Solution:

DIE HARD

“Die Hard” is probably one of the best Christmas movies of all time, for sure one of my personal favourites. So, this year instead of watching the little animated dog with a 4 year old sense of humor, you can get your family to see an action classic film… and yes … it is a movie for the holidays.

First of all, if you haven’t seen this movie you should, no matter the circumstances.

It is the movie that made Bruce Willis into a start. Before die hard he was making a Tv show, after Die hard he is one of the biggest hollywood actors in History.

Let’s read a small synopsis of this film directed by master John McTiernan

Wills plays the iconic role of John McClane. A New York cop that finds himself in a Los Angeles skyscraper ( Nakatomi Plaza) on Christmas eve. He has no shoes, he gets beaten up to (almost) dead, he basically is trying to save his wife from the german “terrorists” and he starts with only a small gun… however he is able to get a machine gun.

In this day and age where most of movie heroes have a iron suit or a magical hammer, it is as pleasurable as ever to see John McClane in this circumstances.

The plaza gets taken into hostage by a group of German outlaws. Their leader, Hans Gruber a rather posh criminal master mind. ( played by Allan Rickman ( in what is my most dear performance he ever gave)) Who gets into a spectacular cat and mouse game with John McClane during the film.

And that’s it. John tries to save the day and his wife against all odds.

This is not a film review but rather a recommendation, so I won’t go into much more details. I will say that this film is a cult classic for a reason. It is engaging from beginning to end, masterfully executed, with some of the best action scenes. Just pure fun, entertainment.

So if you are a bit tired of the usual Christmas specials, give “Die Hard” a try. You won’t regret and evryone will have a good time. And who knows... it may even become a cool tradition.

Happy Holidays!

That's funny, we actually watched this the other night.

Thank you for taking the time to read it. Once a Classic, always a Classic .

I have a suggestion for the next christmas movie: Rare Exports

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll make sure I see it.
