"Happy Christmas" Another kind of Christmas movie ( Film Suggestion)

Here we are in december again… and that means it’s the holidays season. While some good things can be said about this time a year, like nice food and quality time with family, there is however one aspect I think could be improved... and that is christmas movies.

I have nothing against them and they are all fine and can be very entertaining for the all family to watch together and everything. All good, however what I am suggesting here it's a genuine nice film for adults.

“Happy Christmas” is the answer. For sure you can get your family on board with such a nice title….

It was written and directed by Joe Swanberg ( one of the founders of the mumblecore movement). And It is not about the kid who wants the toy that is out of production or anything like that. The film is about the complexities of everyday life that happen to be set in the holidays.

It’s the story about a a brother and his sister (played by the talented Anna Kendrick). She needs to go back to Chicago and live with her brother for a while. Some people would describe her as somewhat immature and hedonistic. The first night she is at his place she goes out and gets totally drunk.

She and her friends do take care of her brother’s baby for a while… and many many other things happen. (even soft erotic novels are in the mix)

One thing that I did like also is the christmas evening scene. Most films tend to make it into such a big deal … and it is fine, I get it. But in my personal experience, that evening is not as world shaking as it is usually portrayed. I’m glad that it is for some people but in my life it is not a all or nothing, life altering moment. And in this film it is like that. We just see the family opening a couple presents for the baby and a couple of the grown ups do look a tiny bit bored.

This is a film suggestion and not a review, so I am going to keep it short and let you see the film (if you so wish) with out knowing too much more.

But here you go, if you are looking for a movie a bit more complex and adult themed for christmas, this is one to see. Maybe that night after the kids go to bed and your all a bit tired to socialize and just want to see something interesting and different while maintaining the christmas and family spirit, you can pop this one in.
