With this show you have to be patient, and go trough couple of episodes with a feeling that it’s nothing special, maybe even mediocre, it will also seem like a variant on a dozen or so different animated comedies from Adult Swim, but when you get to the fourth and fifth episode you will get that you are watching something original and extraordinary.

Bojack Horseman is an depressed, drunk, narcissistic actor that was famous for being the main character in a popular 90s sitcom “Horsin' Around”, and since then he couldn’t move on to any bigger role, living depressing life in ‘’old fame’’. One critic wrote ‘’No sitcom on television tackles long-term depression and self-loathing quite the way Bojack Horseman does. Bojack is a washed up 90’s family sitcom star who wants to be seen by the public the way he wants to see himself. Unfortunately, both parties only see a failure. Bojack wants to be taken seriously, but even when he finally is, he realizes that doesn’t make him happy.’

The show mocks the entertainment industry and sitcom stars in a very brutal and human way. Yes, human. Although you think ‘’how on earth can you take anything on this show seriously when the main character is horse-man?’’
But the show really knows how to pull off the mix between firecracker jokes and emotional depth, it gives you comedy and tragedy in equal measure. It's organic, it’s relatable and it’s clever.

It has a story where each episode builds off the previous episode, so have patience and stick around for the whole season and you won’t regret it.
If you like dark humor and background jokes Bojack Horseman will definitely be on your list of favorite tv shows.

SYNOPSIS OF FIRST EPISODE
(taken from Slate)

''In the first episode, BoJack (Will Arnett) is harangued by his very stressed-out and nearly insolvent book editor—a penguin, fittingly—to deliver the memoir he’s allegedly been working on for years. The penguin suggests that BoJack hire a ghostwriter, Diane Nguyen (Alison Brie), a level-headed realist who happens to be dating Mr. Peanutbutter (Paul F. Tomkins), a sunshine-y golden retriever who starred in a sitcom extremely similar to Horsin’ Around and who drives BoJack crazy. BoJack is initially hesitant to work with Diane, because he doesn’t want to open up to anyone ever, but their collaboration undergirds the show, which has more episode-to-episode continuity than cartoons usually do. Rounding out the cast—which, in nearly every episode, features other celebrity guests—is the beanie-wearing Todd (Aaron Paul), a guy who has been crashing on BoJack’s couch for five years, accepting abuse and toaster strudel. And then there’s Princess Carolyn (Amy Sedaris), a cat as well as BoJack’s agent and ex-girlfriend, on hand to get him out of trouble and capitalize whenever she can. (To give you a sense of the show’s raunch level, picking up a call from Carolyn, BoJack says, “I told you I don’t know where it is! Don’t put things in my butt if you want them back.”)''
