Exclusive First Look at ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ Season 2!

Just a few days ago The Handmaid’s Tale won two Golden Globe, and three Critics Choice awards.

The Handmaid's Tale is TV series based on the 1985 novel by Margaret Atwood.
The story speculates on the future of the United States from the perspective of the protagonist Offred. Motivated by events such as the Iranian Revolution of 1979 that transformed the Iranian monarch into Islamic theocracy and the conservative rule of Margaret Thatcher in the UK, Margaret Atwood postulates the terrifying future of its embryos in the (actual) present.

Entertainment Weekly has the first images from the Hulu series, which tease what happens to June, who at the end of season 1 was heading to an uncertain fate, pregnant and hauled away in a van that was controlled either by Gilead or its rebels. The rest of season 2 will focus on world-building, with input from Atwood, who serves as consulting producer on the series.

Season 1 adapted Margaret Atwood’s acclaimed 1985 novel, ending with Elisabeth Moss’ Offred — whom we now know by her real name, June — pregnant and being taken away in a Gilead-controlled van, heading either to dire punishment for an act of rebellion or to freedom. But season 2 (which will premiere in April on Hulu) will enter uncharted territory, albeit with input from Atwood, who serves as a consulting producer on the series.

“Everything from the design of their costumes to the way they look is so chilling. These scenes that are so beautiful, while set in such a terrible place, provide the kind of contrast that makes me happy.”



The Handmaid’s Tale season 2 will debut on Hulu in April.
