There are mothers and children who have been kidnapped and held in a small room for many years, yes, this may sound like one of the generic premises of a criminal thriller, but Frank's Abrahamson's Frankish Room Room is also the adaptation of a best-selling novel This Emma Donoghue is different when she does not focus everything on merely trying to survive a tense escape but also how to live afterwards. 

Room opened with the introduction of a boy (yes, a boy) named Jack (Jacob Tremblay) and his mother, Joy (Brie Larson) who started their day routine by exercising, playing, watching television and reading storybooks, It becomes even more special because it's Jack's 5th birthday, which means there's a real birthday cake like the one he saw on television. Perhaps not a glimpse of anything strange but quickly the audience realizes that Jack and Joy live in a small room with no window sized, yes, approximately 5 × 5 meters where either kitchen, bathtub, toilet, bed, dining table is in one The same place as the main door was tightly closed, and even more surprising was the fact that Jack was born and raised there in seven years since Joy was kidnapped and held by Old Nick (Sean Bridgers). 

It's easy to brand Room as a narrow space abduction thriller because the first half is like giving all indications to it, including an attempt to break free. We know that Joy and Jack are kidnap victims after about 15 minutes, though not spending up to 20 years like Choi Min-Sik's Oh Dae-Su character in Oldboy, 7 years is obviously a long time, Sad when you have to give birth and raise your child there, drooping behind a congested wall without ever knowing what the world is like through a box called television. 

Director Lenny Abrahamson is pretty good at cultivating the stage of the meeting with the maximum, presenting a gentleness and innocence from behind his loud nan theme, how he is also able to make "Room" away from the impression of tightness with the selection of a dynamic camera point of view as if the room The little thing feels so broad from the point of view of little boy. The script also feels so strong because Emma Donoghue the owner of the novel is directly involved in the writing. In addition to the solid narrative support of Abrahmason many assisted with the brilliant performance of Brie Larson and Jacob Tremblay which must be recognized as the reason why Room can work perfectly. Larson and Tremblay radiated an intimacy and warmth, filling the small space with joy even from within the character Joy knew that he and his son could not live there forever. 

But getting out of the "Room" is still half of Room's goal, though it must also be recognized that the process of finding a way out of freedom brings out a peak emotional experience of its own that can leave a deep impression. The new conflict then comes after Joy and Jack manage to escape from Old Nick, especially for Jack who has never seen the whole universe behind the walls of a room all his life. Like the first blind person to see, Jack of course has difficulty adapting, living and big in a small box making him anti-social because he only has a "ma" of his. Instantly the vast and bustling world became narrow and cramped for little Jack, he was like Alice in a wonderland, lost and strange. 

Because it's all taken from Jack's point of view, including the use of the narrative he's also talking about, practically it's all about Jack, how in his effort to get acquainted and touch new worlds, new people including his grandmother (Joan Allen) and everything he never imagined. This then makes some of the background of the story unexplored too obviously, such as for Joy's own character, why he got kidnapped, why his relationship with his father (William H. Macy) seemed so tenuous although in the end, we know a bit more to guess what really happened When Joe was in the interview. Yes, there is a very painful grief in the past that we can see from the gestures of Joy once again able to show Larson with a convincing acting capacity.

It may feel a little awkward to watch Room when the climax of the peak is placed in the middle of the film, making all emotions drained away when forced to enjoy the next round with calmer levels and tensions. This makes Room to be like two different movies. But that was no big deal, anyway, in the end the Room remained a good mother-daughter drama with power on the narration and the study of its deep character.
