Capsule Film Review: Thick as Thieves (2009)

Mimi Leder, one of the rare American female directors known for their action genre works, tried to employ her skills in 2009 heist film Thick as Thieves. Antonio Banderas stars as Gabriel Martin, small-time criminal from Miami who comes to New York and catches attention of an older, more experienced criminal Keith Ripley (played by Morgan Freeman) who recruits him for the major heist of famous Faberge eggs. Leder tries very hard to make things interesting during the scenes depicting the actual heist, but her efforts are in vain due to awfully uninspired script, miscasting and complete lack of chemistry between Banderas and Radha Mitchell who plays obligatory female character.
