Capsule Film Review: Jack Reacher: Never Go Back (2016)

in #film6 years ago (edited)

Second film in the series of adaptations of Lee Child’s popular novels is a film that fares poorly compared with its 2012 predecessor. Tom Cruise returns in the role of Jack Reacher, vagabond former US military police officer who roams across USA occasionally employing his experience and deadly skills as part-time vigilante. His emerging friendship with Captain Susan Turner (played by Cobie Smulders), current commander of his former unit, is put to the test when she gets accused of espionage. Jack Reacher, of course, must prove her innocence and, while doing so, she must confront some forgotten details from his own past. Directed by Edward Zwick, Never Go Back features rather mediocre action, forgettable plot and lack of interesting characters (with the exception of 15-year old girl played by talented Danika Yarosh). But the greatest disappointment is Cruise, who, unlike most of his other films, begins to actually look his age.
