Angelina Jolie's 'First They Killed My Father' Arrives Netflix on September 15, 2017
"First They Killed My Father", directed by Angelina Jolie and filmed in Cambodia, is set to release on Netflix this September 15, 2017.
"First They Killed My Father" is the film adaptation of Cambodian author and Human Rights activist, Loung Ung's bitter memoir of surviving during the deadly Khmer Rouge regime from 1975 till 1979 that killed around 1.8 million people in Cambodia.
The film unfurls the story of Loung Ung and her family attempting to survive the Khmer Rouge through her perspective, who was just 5 years of age when the Khmer Rouge merged the power in Cambodia. When capital of Phnom Penh, the place where she grew up, was overtaken by Khmer Rouge, Ung's family was isolated — the young lady was compelled to become a child soldier while her relatives were sent to labor camps. The brutal Communist regime, led by Pol Pot, is estimated to have killed at least 1.7 million people during a four-year program of torture, displacement and executions.
Shot in Cambodia between November 2015 to February 2016 at different places, for example, Battambang, Siem Reap, and Phnom Penh, the film was totally shot in Khmer language and is the largest movie ever made in the country. The cast is made up entirely of Cambodian actors with Sareum Srey Moch as Loung Ung, Phoeung Kompheak as the father, and Sveng Socheata as the mother. Cambodian technicians, artisans and crafts people comprised the largest portion of the crew, along with more than 3,500 Cambodian background actors.
"First They Killed My Father" had held its first screening at a few areas in February earlier this year, and many people are very excited to know that the film will be released on Netflix in September 15, 2017. In the meantime, a lot of people additionally need the film to be screening in the local cinemas in Cambodia too.
