Filecoin Looks to Mid-2019 for Blockchain Storage Network Launch

• Coindesk reports that Filecoin is planning to officially launch its blockchain-based data storage network sometime near the middle of 2019.
• The Filecoin roadmap was released yesterday alongside the release of demos for Filecoin’s go-filecoin protocol implementation.
• Filecoin plans to launch a ‘testnet’ sometime between Q4 2018 and Q1 2019, and a ‘mainnet’ sometime in Q2/Q3 2019.

• I noted the excitement around Filecoin’s blockchain file storage concept in October 2017.
• The Filecoin ICO in February 2017 was notable for raising USD257m, with Filecoin attracting support from Sequoia Capital, Andreesen Horowitz, and Union Square Ventures.
• Since then Filecoin has maintained a relatively low profile so news of the roadmap is a sign of life.
