Hatching Day :: 50 Word Short Story
I'm happy to have my first story here on Steem be something new, and not just a reposting from my blog. Also great to have found the #fiftywords challenge run by @Jayna.
The keyword for this week's challenge is "hatch", and this is the first thing that came to mind. The line drawing is my own artwork, part of a coloring book I made for my niece a few years back.
Anyway, here's the story:
Effort. So much effort. Stretch, poke, strain. Cracks to push, to break apart.
One more, so big. Bright light, warm air. Blink for first time, draw in that sulfur-scented air.
A presence waiting, an eager puff of breath. Someone wanting to see tiny scales and little wings. Mommy loves me!
