Here is my entry:
Prologue: With a family of 5 children and only the husband works as a carpenter, you do what you can to he able to send them to a good school and graduate. This is the musing of the eldest son for his mom's 70th birthday.

It’s his Mom’s birthday. He had the best gift he could give her. He knows it will make her happy. Something she had been longing for in a long time. He saved enough to give her back the deed to their house and land. His promise to his dad fulfilled.

This is a charming story, @purpledaisy57! It makes me wonder what the circumstances were that took the land deed away from his mother! I love the happy ending.
in the prologue they were 5 siblings so inorder to be able to send them to school the mother had to sell or pawn her land. :) so the eldest when he could he saved to buy it back happy ending
Oh! I see now! I read that, but I didn't make the connection that "you do what you can" meant she had to sell or pawn her land. Thank you for the additional information. And good use of the prompt!

A really nice story.. So nice to be able to keep his fathers promise.. I'd love to have seen his Mum's face, when he handed over the deed..
Nice story. It portraits a situation that even today torments generations of families around the world. The ownership of land, of one's own home. Sometimes it takes whole generations to fulfill that promise.
