Misty Was Fair

"You're adopted," Misty's little cousin told her at the family reunion.

The words hit her like a heavy pillow. But then her eyes fixed on the dark-haired people at the campground. Children with grubby fingers stuffed hotdogs in their mouths. Adults shouted and smashed beer bottles.

"Good," Misty said.
