Pumpkins from the Heart
Today my neighbor decorates with huge blow up pumpkins and ghosts. The sad thing is that her home is just shy of falling apart. This is not the home of a person with financial means. Yet she makes a valiant attempt at cheerfulness and feels some small measure of joy.
Good for her, life is about feeling good, and if that brings her joy, then she is enjoying life and that's a good thing.

Yeah, there's a lot of that around here too. It's kind of bittersweet but it's nice to see people still prioritizing fun despite everything else. It's the little things that make the big things easier to handle.
Nice job, @blueeyes8960. Your story shows an interesting juxtaposition of window dressing against harsh reality. I like how it ends, highlighting the neighbors attempt at creating joy with her festive decor.
It's like dressing when one feels down. It is ok, i guess, as long as it does not accelerate the collapse of the "house". Some people live in denial and of appearances and refuse to accept crises of call for help, until is too late.
This is bitter sweet. Sad to see someone fall on hard times, but nice to see them get joy from it in the end.
