The 16th staging of the FIFA World Cup, was held in France from 10 June to 12 July 1998. The country was chosen as a host nation for the second time in the history of the tournament.

64 matches were played, 171 goals were scored during this world cup with an average of 2.67 goals per match.

Four teams qualified to the semi-finals; France, Brasil, Netherlands and Croatia.

The final game of this world cup in Saint-Denis Park Stadium in Paris between Brasil and France, where the host country was able to conquer the game and win 3-0, to be able to clinch their 1st world cup title.

David Śuker received the golden boot for having the highest number of goals during this world cup, with 6 goals; followed by Gabriel Batistuta and Christian Vieri with 5 goals each.
