Me time

The baby is with his grandmother, and while Monday is normally "date night", I feel zapped from picking up an extra day at work and so am spending the evening alone. When I'm not working, sleeping, or attending to my little one, I'm probably reading.

Right now, I'm really into the Game of Thrones graphic novels, adapted from George R.R. Martin's source material by Daniel Abraham and illustrated by Tommy Patterson. These comics are a much more intimate way to "see" the universe the author has created, as opposed to HBO's adaptation. I love the actors, and everything the show has done (mostly), but in the graphic novels, there is so much detail in the setting, so many subtle delights. To mention a few, a glimpse of the Hand of the King's brooch, the trinkets within the Grandmaester's chambers, it's just superb. I am ever more immersed into this world, which is not to be taken lightly!

Things that stand out: Theon's extreme comeliness. His long, lush hair and his proud stature, is just so haunting to see on the pages with the knowledge of what is to come in his character arc. Arya's poutiness; Tyrion's mirth. I love the actors on the show, don't get me wrong, but these two-dimensional drawings are truly prismatic.

My only major critique so far is Ghost, whose eyes are not always red for some reason. Which reminds me, the Others are probably my favorite part about this adaptation. They are truly beautiful ice creatures, and so scary. When Old Nan tells Bran the story of the first Long Night, I could hear her voice, feel the cold, sense Bran's creeping wonder
