The Gamble
We had all warned Baba not to make the bet but he was very certain of his prediction..
"Baba this match is not a sure match, anybody can win or lose" Bamidele said to his father but the old man paid deaf ears to him..
The family wouldn't have been worried if the stake baba was about placing was the usual one him and his friend does but this time baba has placed his house and so has his friend Nnamdi.
Nothing was going to change Baba's mind as he was determined to place his bet. His friend Nnamdi has won his five thousand naira in their last bet and that has angered him. So he decided on their next bet he was going to put in a higher stake, something he knew would bring his friend to his knee's after he has won.
The match started and every member of the family held their heart in their hands 😁 As far as they knew, this was the only house they had and so were scared of losing it. Baba and Nnamdi sat on the sofa both focused on the match a d then it happened, the one they called Lionel Messi scored the first goal.
"Get me a cup of water" Baba said to Bamidele calmly while his friend Nnamdi smiled. He glanced around the living for a while before focusing back on the television. One could guess what he was thinking "very soon, this house will be mine"
Bamidele came with the water and baba scolded him for coming late when he had only been gone for a few seconds...
Second half, The house became silent as the ref started the match and minutes into the second half, Nigeria equalized. The entire household screamed for joy as baba immediately jumped up not minding his age and screamed for joy.
Nnamdi remained calmed, "there was still time" he told himself ... The house returned back to it's former state, the silent one as everyone once again focused in the television..
"Ah werrey ref nii ooo" (The ref is a madman) Baba screamed out after the ref denied Nigeria a second penalty.
Six minutes to full time tension was all over the placed, no one said a word and that was when it happened, Argentina scored another goal..
This time it was Nnamdi who jumped up with speed, excitement all over him.. It was obvious, he has won the bet and then the final whistle was blown..
Baba fainted
