Left Arm In.
"Did you get it?" Mason asks knowing it's his partner, busy coming through the covered entrance they made to the basement of an abandoned building. The building has been abandoned for years and is perfectly situated in a forgotten area where the only residents are the forgotten and unseen. Bums, drug addicted, runaways, and the odd elderly with one foot in the grave.
Surprisingly, it is not a violent area. Even the gangsters and drug dealers have standards and they will not be operating in this neighbourhood. It was the perfect area for far more nefarious things if one was so inclined. Mason and Kiara are not your average bums, they are entrepreneurs, they are educated and both have their MBA degrees from the University of Cape Town.
Kiara heads over to the chest freezer and places the cooler bag with ice packs back, "No, they sold it already." Closing the freezer with a loud sigh. "The guy says some pharmaceutical company came in and collected everything this morning, I missed them by an hour."
Leaning with his elbows on a metal table, his head between his hands, he looks up and turns towards Kiara. "He promised we would get at least one today. This is our first deal, we can't afford to not deliver." Kiara looks at Mason as she takes a beer out the fridge, opens it and takes a sip. "No shit! Do you think I don't know this?" Mason gets up to fetch himself a beer, Kiara clearly was not going to offer him one. "Well, any ideas?" He asks in a flat tone.
Kiara goes to sit down at the table. Looking around the basement she is impressed with how great it all looks. Very homely she thinks to herself, "When is delivery for exactly?" she asks before taking another gulp from her beer.
Closing the fridge and going to sit opposite Kiara thinking the question over as he takes a swig of his beer, exclaiming in appreciation, Mason replies "No exact date was established, with the laws only recently changed there is some leeway to get people on board. I would say we have about another month to confirm supply and deliver, then we can move to the next phase of planning.""Ok, then we still have time," Kiara says as she slams her empty beer down and heads to the fridge to get another. "We just need to keep our wits about us," she says as she closes the fridge then leans against it. "You know we would also need to not think about it too much, this is a sensitive product by nature. People get very touchy over organs and body parts even the discarded ones. Can you imagine..." she trails off lost in thought.
Mason nods in agreement, "Yes, we need to keep our personal feelings out of this and stay focused on providing a service. Things are tough and honestly, this feels like the break we need. Even if it is not as clean as I would like."
Kiara pauses for a second, she knows he is baiting her, "Stupid! No, I was thinking. We need to get contacts in more hospitals we won't be able to deliver ten specimens in the time frame, especially not if the corps have already started swooping in."
Mason nods in agreement, "I will speak to them and see if we can get a better range. Ten is difficult but we should be able to agree on an amount that will keep them from looking somewhere else." Mason says with a concerned look as he stares at the floor, looking up he makes eye contact with Kiara then smiles. "We are still first in the gate, I think we will be ok. I think I should go give our friend in the hospital a visit."
Kiara smiles back, a sparkle in her eye as she simply responds, "Yes."
They have a mutual interest in making a shit ton of money and that has kept things very civil. No, today will just be a checkup. After all, he could not have known about the corp coming in to collect everything. "Did he?" Mason asks himself out loud. He reaches the car, opens it and gets behind the wheel then pauses for a second.
"Surely he has a collection schedule, did that motherfucker take another deal from the corp? What a pissface!" Mason softly screams and slams his palms down on the steering wheel, then reaches under the seat to feel if the gun is there. Hissing with anger he starts the car and begins to reverse into the street, "Goddammit, we could have had it all today and sealed the deal but no this mofo thinks there are organs and body parts on every corner!" Mason steps on the gas intent on making their contact understand that he can give the corps and teaching hospitals everything, except the parts they agreed on.
It made perfect sense to Mason that giving them the parts is better. That means more money for their contact, no way the corps are matching what he would get from them. He will just have to make their contact see it his way.

I'd like to see their business plan behind this, lol :D
I was surprised with the development of the story as I was afraid it would be more horror - like. When Klara was sitting there quiet I was thinking she was putting a plan together to kill Mason to deliver at least part of what was promised and make some money ;)
But your ending is better :)
Thank you for sharing!
Thank you, the intro kinda got away from me there I will need to decide to still tell the rest but would like it to not dag out as much. Fortunately, I stuck with the last bit because that would have caused everything to be much longer if I stuck to my original flow. Maybe in the next one, I will up the horror aspect.
Dark and intriguing. Me likey!
Thanx, something different hoping it will come together :) Seems you were my 3500th reply Nice.

Next.... I was thinking it is done. You mean there is more?

Stop holding out on us now!
There's a whole ring to uncover.
And how those two ended up there.
What these parts are being used for....
You're just creating suspense for the next chapter aren't you?!! Sneaky @penderis

I'm trying to figure out if what they're doing with the parts, how they're getting the parts and everything in between, and whether any of that aspect is legal. Also wondering if they are murderers. Nice intro!
I was thinking in terms of medical waste maybe read up a bit more but that seems like the simplest method without getting bogged down with real world rules etc.
I'll look into that, although it sounds kinda gross. 😝 It had never occurred to me before now, that body parts would be considered medical waste, but forced to think about it, I'm sure that's been going on, though it may be a fairly new process. In the past humans had far more reverence for the dead, and would have probably buried or cremated body parts even if they didn't know who they belonged to, just out of "respect for the dead." I don't think there's a whole lot of that old kind of reverence for those who have passed on, around these days.
You got Curied! And deserved it. :)
Is it boring if I just say that I liked your story?
I'll say it anyway.
Liked your story.
Really good. The most scary thing about this underworld businesses is how natural these people can talk about thir business.
We see it here with drugs, kidnaps, rapes, or murders.
Your story accurately portrays the twisted minds and their thinking processes.
